Day 29 — (FMF) — together
“These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” Hebrews 11: 39,40
It’s day 29 of the Five Minute Friday writing challenge and I feel a bit spent — as if all the words have been emptied out of me and I wonder if there is anything meaningful left in me to write.
And the word prompt together conjures up this phrase, “so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”
I wonder if this is something I heard in a movie or is it found in the Bible and sure enough it is in God’s Word. I remember reading this passage and wondering what it meant. Maybe some of you can enlighten me on it.
I referenced Hebrews 11 — the hall of fame for heroes of faith in Bible times in an earlier post for this challenge — and here it is again.
The heroes commended in this chapter did not receive what they’d been promised — why?
Because God had planned something better for us. And that better was that together with us — me and you — would they be made perfect.
The heroes listed in Hebrews 11 had amazing faith and did incredible things for God and yet they did not receive what they’d been promised. It makes me think that if they did not receive their promise — surely I can’t expect to receive mine on this side of eternity.
The better plan that God had was that we would receive the promise together. What a promise to look forward — some day in eternity we will receive what God’s promised together with all the saints — with all the heroes of the faith — past, present and future. Only then will they be made perfect and as will we.
And maybe I’ve got all this wrong but I am reminded of what John describes in Revelation — all the saints in heaven worshiping together. Someday when we are all together in heaven and we see face to face — we will be perfect. It gives me hope and encourages me to accept my imperfection and to keep putting my faith in Jesus.
