I was walking across our college campus one day when a fellow pre-med major stopped me. We’d taken a few classes together and aside from his beliefs, I thought he was a nice guy.
“Hulda,” he said with a big grin. “God loves you!” He went to tell me how he got “saved” and how he was studying the Bible. I didn’t know what to make of it since he was the same guy who used to say God spelled backward was ….
When we invited him to go clubbing, he declined and offered the latest verses he was memorizing all with the same big grin. And that began to bother me since I thought I’m a Christian — don’t quote verses at me.
Eventually his peace and my lack of it led me on my own spiritual journey and I ended up committing my life to the Lord Jesus as a young adult. I wrote about that experience here.
I wonder what would have happened if my friend hadn’t shared his testimony of God working in his life with me? I wonder what would have happened if the verses he quoted to me hadn’t convicted me of my sin?
But he shared how God had changed his life and that made all the difference in the world. It set me on a path that I’m still traveling today — it’s the narrow one that leads to life — to everlasting life.
My college classmate and my husband are similar in that they have the gift of evangelism. It’s easy for them to share their faith with strangers on the street but not me.
I used to feel bad about it — but now, I want to use what God has given me. I want to do what my friend did for me — to share what God has done for me. It’s one reason why I started this blog.
How about you? How do you share your faith?
