Day 14 {FMF}
“Ask and it will be given to you.” Matt. 7:7
I love that our Heavenly Father invites us to ask. He knows our needs already and yet he invites us to ask.
Lately, our family has been struggling financially like never before. A few months ago, we put a halt to credit card spending and we’ve felt the pain of that. Not having the funds for the small fun things like a cup of coffee at our favorite coffee shop or being able to splurge on a birthday present for your child puts a damper on things. Every dollar in our home has to have a name and for a family that’s used to just winging it — the change has been hard.
And because of our financial need, a lot of our prayers have been about money. I suppose we are not alone in this.
We’ve been praying and asking. We put our budget on the wall outlining our needs for the month and even the rest of the year. And I wish I could say that I’ve been full of faith and not worrying at all. Not by a long shot.
I don’t know if it’s Murphy who’s been showing up or if it’s the devil but we continue to need more than we planned for because things just happen.
Even so, we’ve seen God’s faithfulness to us.
The other week, I went grocery shopping with the equivalent of $1.50 in my wallet and I bought a bag of beans and flour with it. The flour because it was on sale and the beans because there’s so much you can do with a bag of beans.
We had a group of people coming over that weekend — it was our turn to host our small church-plant and I wondered what we were going to serve. Turns out the row of apple trees on the road is available for the general public and so hubby came home with a big sack full of them.
I made apple nut bread and just about everyone wanted the recipe. Home group went well and once again, our daily need was met.
And so we are learning that these lean days are good for us. There is much that God is teaching us — such as being better stewards of His blessings and being grateful for what we do have. Food no longer goes to waste in our home and I hope and pray it stays that way.
While I’m praying and asking for our debt to be gone asap — I believe God has a different plan. Yes, we’re asking and He is indeed answering — just not as quickly as we’d like Him to.
How about you, friend? What are you asking for?
