It’s the start of a new year, a new decade and the time is still ripe to seek direction and clarity for your life.
There is something powerful about the turning the page of a new calendar year — but especially this year.
The number alone speaks volumes.
2020
Up until I read the book of Numbers in the Bible, I never really thought God cared much about numbers. But He does. It struck me after reading all the numbers listed in the book of Numbers, the concluding statement of the book was — God kept His Word to the Israelites.
The same number of Israelites who left Egypt entered the promised land.
I went to my second counseling appointment on the last day of the year, of the decade. My heart was full of hope — and yet tender. I had unpacked a lot with my therapist about the direction that my life had taken.
I had driven in the rain and fog earlier in the morning and so it was a welcome relief to see the blue sky and no more rain for the drive home.
What direction would my life take? Could it get any worse than it had been this past year?
I do not know the future but God does. And because we live in a sin-filled world, I know anything is possible. There are no guarantees that life will ever be a happily ever one.
But if I’ve learned anything from the dark days of the last year and decade, it’s that God is faithful. Our Heavenly Father is a good father and no matter what happens, I know He will be with me. He is true to His promise.
I pull into the parking lot and notice people taking pictures of the sky. It’s a rainbow but not just one rainbow but a double one.
And I feel Father speaking to my heart — a double rainbow on the eve of 2020. The rainbow — a reminder of God’s promise to never destroy the earth with water again — a reminder of His kindness and goodness.
Wherever 2020 may take me, I know Father is already there and I will never be alone and neither will you, friend. He’s a good, kind, loving father.
